Help with starting/park problem
Help with starting/park problem
My car sometimes wont start, it wont even crank. I think I have found the issue to be that it doesn't know it is in park because I cant use my hatch open button and it only works when it is in park too... Is there any way to tell that that is the problem or fix it?

Re: Help with starting/park problem
I have seen a few neutral safety switches go on these. Most of the ones ive seen have been melted for some reason so you mat be able to just glance at it. Thats definitly what it sounds like though. Do what Richboll said. Try to start in neutral if that does nothing try wiggling shifter or try starting in all gears.

Agreed...
You can also just hold the key in Start, and WITH YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE HARD, move the shifter around and see if it makes contact somewhere. That'll tell you right away if it's the NSS. It's a fairly common failure part as cars get to this age.
