whining and hot ALT

so my baby is road ready... or so i thought. I turned her on today and she was whining like crazy. The PS belt was super tight so I readjusted within specs. Still nothing. as I was doing my underhood look to see what i can find i noticed the ALT belt and ALT were blazing!!. Car wasnt even on long enough for choke to fully open. The alt belt is new but before that i changed the alt cuz it was bad and my buddy (found out after the fact) took a crowbar to it and did the lean back while someone else tightened it down. I found it a few days later but i think the damage was already done. Is it safe to assume he jacked up the bearings in the alt??? I mean this thing is stovetop hot. I did search and find one post saying that a bad diode will make it very hot.... is this true?

my PS pulley is a lil wobbly too but i dont think thats it nonetheless itll all get repaired together.

Thanks.

Re: whining and hot ALT

sure sounds like a shorted diode in the alternator.
