what kind of mileage numbers does everyone get?
86 camaro is a pretty stripepd down base model- non AC, crank up windows, etc, but it does have t tops- that came from the factory with a 2.8 and an auto trans.. in stock form, it would average 23mpg and took forever to get up to speed..
a couple of winters ago, the coolant in the radiator froze up as i was driving home from work on the coldest night of the year (-32 degrees on the bank sign...) which caused the engine to overheat and warp the heads..
long story short, i wound up rebuilding and swapping in the L69 305 out of an 86 Caprice, with a set of vortec heads and a tiny little cam with mileage on my mind since i was getting it ready for a road trip from MN to TX at the beginning of June.. anyways, i saw pretty much the whole center part of the country- St Louis, Memphis, Dallas, San Antonio, Corpus Christie, Kansas City- and averaged a hair over 24mpg over the entire 8 day and 3900 mile trip, which i thought was pretty damn good..
so what kind of mileage numbers do these cars knock down with a 305 in factory trim, and what would anyone guess my car weighs? i'm thinking in the 3200-3300 pound range based on it's lack of options..
this is the car:

this is the engine:

looking back at the money i spent to just put a mild and underpowered 305 in it, i could have done a carbureted 5.3 swap and gotten the similar or better mileage with actual power.. oh well, maybe next year..
here is the album where i documented the build of the car on my facebook page.

11.5-12 MPG in the city on a Holley 4 bbl carbed 350 with a t56 in an 84 TA. Not sure what hwy is like but prbly 15-20. Finny thing is that it doesn't change much when I run through a heavier footed tank of gas.

I get 16 but thats because im having heating issues and always have t run my A/C but when thats fixed about 18 or so, but with my lead foot about 16 hah, its a 92 z28 with the 350.
