Vibrates in drive at idle

I have a 1991 RS with the 305 and just lately when im in gear waiting at a light right when my car hits 800 rpm you can feel the whole car shaking. The engines not missing but its a steady shake. Any ideas?

Thanks
Ryan

Re: Vibrates in drive at idle

Check your spark plugs and wires. A cylinder probably isn't firing. That would be your first step.

Step two would be to check the compression in your cylinders. If it isn't a plug/wire, then it might be a compression issue.

I had a similar problem like this in my case it turned out to be a broken rocker arm stud

Re: Vibrates in drive at idle

is it enough to shake the whole car or is it just a little vibration that you notice in the pedals? it doesn't do it at any other time at all? what does it sound like when it does it? does it tap or knock at all or even rattle

Re: Vibrates in drive at idle

I recently noticed a pulsing vibration that just started in my 89 GTA that only does it at idle and in gear. If I come to a stop I can deal a pulsing vibration that makes various parts of the car rattle. It isn't super bad but annoying so I put it in neutral and it goes away. The engine was rebuild 6 months ago at a GM dealer and has new injectors. Transmission was also rebuilt so not sure if it's exhaust touching or something else? I also had new motor mounts installed when engine was out.
