Is it time for a heated 02 sensor?
It is a mild built 383 stroker, D port Aluminum heads, SLP 1.75" shortys, with the one wire 02 sensor in the collector. It flows considerably better than the stock exhaust manifolds, so I'm wondering if my 02 readings could be inaccurate, possibly not heating up to 600*. Experiencing a rich condition. Fuel burns nice and clean when you ease into the throttle, but its overly rich when you stomp it and also when you let off the throttle after a hard pull it will smoke unburnt fuel for about 3 seconds, then go back to pretty much normal. Also seeing a whisp of unburnt fuel while idling, but not too bad.
Anyone had any similar problems, and could the heated 02 sensor potentially cure the issue? I know these old ECM's (7165) weren't the best, but the mods to the engine are pretty mild.

Not saying a heated 02 wouldn't be a good idea with headers but at WOT the 02 sensor does nothing as the computer runs off a predetermined fuel map (open loop). The 02 sensor is mainly used for cruising fuel trim (closed loop).

I had a unheated O2 sensor on the collector on my long tube headers and it only dropped out ( cooled off ) when car was at idle.
As soon as I drove off it heated up and came back on line
Has ECM been tuned for the mods?

Yes, the ECM has been tuned for the mods. Tomorrow I am going to try a brand new 1 wire sensor, and see how things work out. 02 sensors have a habit of getting lazy as they get used, so I'm a little hopeful. If that doesn't work out, next step will be installing a heated sensor. I will keep all informed.
Thanks.
Thanks.

If it was my car, I'd break out the torch and multimeter to find out for sure if the sensor is lazy, but I'm mostly broke from my relationship with my car, and propane is cheaper than a new sensor. Either way, I wish you best of luck.
