Low Idle
I have a 1987 camaro carbed. Anything below 1500 rpm it starts to jerk. So i set the idle around 2000 rpm just to keep it running and it runs pretty good but when i try to shut it off it starts dieseling. Can someone tell me what i need to do?

Re: Low Idle
The fact that it's dieseling after you shut it off indicates to me that your timing is too far advanced. Retard the distributor and try it there. As for the jerking, not too sure. This post should be in Tech/General engine section.

Re: Low Idle
How long have you had the car? I take it that it had been running fine than this started happening out of the blue.Have you made any adjustments/worked in the bay/added parts recently ? If not than I would start with timing (how it adjusted its self to a unfavorable position is beyond me) First I guess I should ask if you know how to set your base timing with a gun first. If the answer is yes than if you have a timing gun it cost nothing to try.Back the rpms back to where it was before then take a look at where your base timing mark is that way you can put it back where it was if adjusting it dose not work. It may not be the answer but it can be a proses of elimination and you can cross that one of the list. Here's diagram showing 1987 to 1988 5.0 carburetor Camaros engine vacuum routing.

Re: Low Idle
I havent had the car long at all. I took the engine coolant temp sensor out that was located on top of my thermostat housing cause my gauge wasnt working and i had to replace it with an aftermarket gauge. Thats when i started having problems.

Re: Low Idle
Did you ever read the replies to your post about that coolant temp sensor? The gauge doesn't work off the sensor in the tstat housing. You swapped the wrong sensor. The gauge is ran off the sensor in the driver side head. The sensor you pulled goes back to the ecm, not the gauge.
