Computer-Controlled HEI Distributor Questions
I took apart my distributor to clean it up to use it on my new engine and found that it had red dried up grease around the upper bushing as shown in the attached picture. Everything I have read about HEI distributors has said that it is supposed to have a felt washer or plastic cover, but mine has neither. I also saw pictures of HEI distributors having small holes on the side of the bushing for the grease to go through to lubricate it. Mine doesn't have any.
What type of grease do I put in there? Wheel bearing grease? White lithium grease? Comp Cams Engine Assembly Lube?
Also, does the distributor shaft shown in the attached picture look worn? It is nice and shiny where the bushings surround the shaft.

Re: Computer-Controlled HEI Distributor Questions
Bump.
So no one has ever taken apart their distributor? I guess the majority of people just replace it with a new/rebuilt one then.
