91 Camaro Wont Start
I have read a few threads with similar problems but I think mine is a little different.
I just bought a 91 RS camaro 305 auto. Drove it home fine. Guy said I needed to change the passenger side valve gasket. When i opened the hood i noticed a cut wire and didn't think anything of it at the moment. Went to disconnect the neg cable on the battery and the other end of the cut wire was caught under it and fell on the positive terminal. Caused a little spark that I knew was going to give me trouble later. So I went ahead and did the job. When I hooked everything up and tried to start it i get nothing but what i assume is the fuel pump. I do get power to all the electrical stuff in the car. The stray wire was coming off the cooling fan at the radiator. I tried checking some of the fuses under the dash and none of them seem bad. I've read that some of the battery cables have fusable links that could have gotten fried and i think that's where i will start next. Can anyone give me any suggestions on what to do if that fails?
Also the "security" light comes on and stays on while the "infl rest" light blinks

Your fusable links are located about 4 inches to 1 foot away from the starter solenoid. They are all located on the same terminal wire of the solenoid that the positive wire runs too.. They sell Fusable link wire at Autozone and Advance and othe places.. Some people just cut them out..

Yeah, i figured they are the first thing in line that would have fried so I'm going to start there and work my way to bigger components. I just hope its not a VATS issue, but i don't see why it would be.

Re: 91 Camaro Wont Start
Ok so my security light stays on, and from what I've read that means I have a VATS problem. I just don't understand how that could have happened in so little time. Is there a way for me to make sure it is a VATS problem before I try to fix or bypass it? If the start enable relay was bad would i have the same problem, even if the security light is on?

Re: 91 Camaro Wont Start
I tested the pellet in my key and got .51. Tested the two wires from the steering column and got the same thing so no VATS problem. Is there anyone who could give me some advice on where to look next?

are you getting power down at the starter. the vats should be fine if it worked before it will not change. that is where i would start. check for power on the main lug of the starter and the small trigger wire for the starter too

Re: 91 Camaro Wont Start
Found the problem. I cut out the fusable links and it had no effect. While i was doing that i noticed another wire that looked a little rough. It ran to the neutral safety switch. cut out the bad part and bam, started right up! Thanks for the tips/advice!
