Time for a new MAF Sensor?

86 Iroc Camaro LB9

Idles great in open loop but starts miss firing and running rich as soon as it enters closed loop.

Trouble codes Im getting are for MAF Sensor and MAF Burnoff Relay.

Brand new o2 sensor and MAF Relay. New Distributor, rotor, coil, plugs, wires, ESC Module checked ok, timing set with light.

90% Sure its the MAF Sensor, Just wanted to consult with you guys before I drop $300.

Going to test tomorrow with the Trouble Shooting Tree I found earlier with the Search Function (dont troll me I looked) . Also going to check voltage.

Relay connector cleaned well before new relay installed. Connector on MAF looks clean and corrosion free, no kinks or damage to the wires themselves.

Anything I should double check before buying the new sensor?

Thanks in advance for any useful information.

Sounds like you already dropped $300 on other parts. And the one at Autozone, brand new not re-manufactured, is only $150. And is a thin circuit board design. Less restrictive than the old honeycomb design. Got anybody nearby that you can borrow a MAF from to test on your car before buying one? Where abouts in CenTex are you?

Re: Time for a new MAF Sensor?

I'm very close to Killen/Ft. Hood.

My MAF looks just like the one on the left with the circuit board. So looks like the previous owner did replace the MAF. This one looks pretty beat up. So I'm going to go buy one from AZ and post results.

The circuit board one is the Autozone. Same one I got a couple years ago. No idea what kinda life they have but I sure hope it is at least a decade or 2, like the OEM ones with their wire than snaps.

If you wanna test one before buying, you could try asking here: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/south-central-region/
