1991 Camaro 3.1L Stalling/Rough Idle
1991 Camaro 3.1L Stalling/Rough Idle
Hey everyone, this is my first post on this forum. I've seen how helpful you guys can be, and thought I'd give my problem a shot on here.
Okay, so this is what is going on. My Camaro was having an issue where it would run great, perfectly smooth, for about 10 minutes and then start stalling out. Well I finally traced that to a faulty fuel pump and spent all day yesterday dropping the tank and replacing that. So this morning I finished it all up and decided to try it out. It fired right up and ran great, I let it run for about 20 minutes to make sure it was good and then shut it off.
Alright, now to my current issue. I went to start it up again and now it's running really rough at about 400-500 RPM and sometimes just stalls out.
I'm baffled, it was running perfect before I replaced the fuel pump (besides the fuel pump going out after 10 minutes) and it ran perfect the first start after I replaced the fuel pump, but now horrible!
What could have possibly changed in that time?
Here's what I've done so far:
New fuel pump.
New fuel filter
Checked the IAC (it's clicking like it should)
Sprayed carb cleaner into the throttle-body (no difference, so it's not fuel related)
If anyone can help me I would so appreciate it! Thanks!

Try taking the IAC off and make sure all the passages are clean. Make sure EGR isn't sticking open. Then.......

Thanks for the reply!
I've cleaned out the IAC passages, and confirmed it's working.
I'll look at the EGR valve today.
One more thing to add, I found out yesterday that I could keep it running by holding my foot down on the gas pedal. It would run fairly smooth above 2000 RPM.

Pull the vac line off the fuel pressure regulator and smell for gas in the vac line and/or look for drips of gas. If you smell gas or see any then you need to rebuild the FPR. While you're in there you may want to test the injectors. If you have to take the top off to do the FPR then you may want to replace the injectors if you don't know they are not too old. That way you have a good starting point for other diagnostics and you shouldn't need to take the top apart again. Then....
Re: 1991 Camaro 3.1L Stalling/Rough Idle
I just made another post, but here's what I found out today.
I took the EGR valve off and ran the car, it idled at about 1200 RPM and sounded smooth.
Cleaned the EGR as best I could without disassembly and put it back on. Still running super rough at about 500 RPM.
Should I replace my EGR valve?
One more thing, before this problem I filled the gas tank up and added a bottle of injector cleaner. Maybe it got carbon into the EGR?
Thanks for all the help.
