sputtered out then died

i was driving around today and as i was pulling into Bk my 87 camaro began sputtering like i was out of gas or had a plugged filter.so i tried some starting fluid as i knew i had about a 1/2 tank.got some pops like the motor wanted to start.even w/o doing that it was cranking over just not starting.i have a optima yellow top which was reading 8volts But was still cranking like a full charge.i went to autozone and got a clear fuel filter.nice clean fuel was filling it.i popped of the 1cyl plug wire & it wasn't dark enough out to tell if i had any spark.later a guy stopped By luckily to give me a hand.we hooked up the jumpers just to get up to 12vlts still nothing.popped off the #2 wire & had the guy watch it as i cranked it over.he said nothing was sparking But i coulda swore i saw some lightning arcs.
i checked out the jets, normal fuel was coming out.after some carB cleaner i even did a lil picking just to make sure all jets were clear.i could smell Both fuel & the carB cleaner/ether coming out the exhaust. aBout six months ago...mayBe 8 i put in Bosch platnium +4 plugs/new wires in.the carB i'm runnin is a holley 670cfm street avenger w/ electric choke.i clean it regularly and always run octane Booster and carB clean at every fill up.
i was thinking maybe the distributor or maybe the holleys internal filters...
any ideas?
Btw thw dist is not the stock remote coil, its the older style Big hei retrofitted.on a tight Budget to make matters worse.
this is my daily driver and i need to have it Back on te road asap...like By monday or tuesday...
i was wondering if i should buy a budget dist or something,if that is in fact the culprit.
any input would Be greatly appreciated!!

I am not a huge fan of putting BOSCH plugs of any time in a chevy. IMO you would be better off sticking with A/C or Accel plugs. Even every dealship and autoparts stores will recommend you stick the OEM which is A/C Delco's. If you are getting fuel according to what you are saying.. Are you getting proper spark. When you said the battery was at 8 volts.. That isn't enough power for the computer to work. I think it has to be a minimum of around 9.5 and higher. I would load test the battery just don't use a multimeter as it doesn't give an accurate reading.. Next, I would look at your distrib and pickup coil and IGN module.. Keep us updated on what you find

Check to see if your dizzy is turning, could be a timing chain. Working on one in the wife's 87 Camaro right now... :/
