If you have all of the bolts out for sure, sometimes they need a good smack to break the gaskets free.

Re: GTA intake plenum

Is anything attatched to the plenum underneath that I might not see? Hit it on the front or back? I also wanted to mention I didnt loosen the bottom runner bolts because my limited amount of tools prevents it.

Re: GTA intake plenum

There are some vacuum lines and wires, but nothing physically holding it except the runner bolts. Remove the throttle body, stick a bar in the front and pop up the plenum to loosen it.

Re: GTA intake plenum

You hafta loosen the runners to intake bolts because the gaskets have "pegs" that insert into holes in the plenum. Until the runners can lean outward & widen the gap for the pegs to come out? The plenum is not coming out. I encountered this the last time I had to pull mine.

No, you do not have to loosen the lower bolts. The runners are long and made of thin soft aluminum. They will easily spread just enough without damage to allow removal of the plenum.

Well.....I can tell you 1000% that MINE would not come loose until I loosened the runners. No ifs ands or buts about it. The gaskets had plastiuc plugs. No rubber mallet moved them. Nothing did. Nothing until I loosened the runners.

Perhaps you've never encountered good gaskets. Perhaps yours were simple flat "paper"/cork gaskets. I dunno.

But what I do know is that possibly his have the plastic plugs to position them. I certainly wouldn't want him damaging his aluminum stuff trying to move something that isn't gonna move with damage being done.

I certainly wish that mine would have moved but they wouldn't.

Re: GTA intake plenum

The pointy side of the little plastic nipples are designed to hold the gasket on the runners so they won't slide away. The other side of the plastic nipples are flat so that they are flush with the gasket mating surface, allowing the plenum to be raised and lowered. The gaskets can even be reused if they aren't ripped.

Right. The plugs fit into holes in the top of the runners. You can smack the plenum pretty much anywhere on a flat surface with a rubber mallet and it'll break loose. I say pretty much, because it may depend on your runners. My SLP runners make the plenum sit literally paper-width apart from the EGR on top of the intake base. The first time I had to break down my TPI setup with SLP runners, I couldn't understand why it wouldn't break free from hitting it with a rubber mallet. If you hit at the very front or very back, it'll break loose at an angle, making one end pop up.
