1989 Formula won't take fuel and rough idle
Hey guys I recently replaced the lower end in my 89 formula. The engine is a 305 TPI With a 5 speed tranny. The car has a new short block with redone stock heads, new stock injectors, new distributor cap, wires and plugs. A fairly new fuel pump and a new EGR valve. The engine has about 1300 miles on it and until now has been running great. I took the car for a quick spin one day and ran it fairly hard in second gear up to about 3500 or 4000 rpm. Immediately after letting off the fuel the car started to idle rough and wanted to quit. Then I noticed it being hard to get the car to take fuel. I managed to get the car home keeping the fuel steady. I checked the timing which was ok. I looked for loose plug wires and vacuum lines and have found no problems. So ultimately I have arrived here to try and get some ideas where to start. If anyone can give me any ideas or comments on my problem it would be great.
Thanks guys. Bryan
Update.
Still have not found the problem but I now cannot get the car to idle on its own. I also noticed that opening the throttle quickly try's to stall the engine but after letting off the throttle the rpms go up. So to keep it running I have to push the pedel fast and let off. Not sure if this info will help anyone have any ideas but if so please let me know. Thanks
