hey, so last friday i had an inccident in the rain. so i was starting off in an intersection gingerly on the throttle because my car(and probably many of yours) doesnt like to keep traction in the rain. so while starting off the engine started to bog down(which isnt the issue) so when it did so i gave it about 1/3rd to 1/2 throttle. well when i did so the engine almost instantly picked up and broke loose (what i was trying to avoid in the first place.) well almost instantly the engine reved up to 6-6200rpm or there abouts... so i pulled into a parking lot and checked over the engine... knoticed a ticking but over the weekend figured out its the smog pump thats not being used due to the emissions system being a practical delete from previous owner. but now the car runs rough and the tach at load or about 1500rpm studders, and i get a vibration through the whole car. is it possible that i spun the distributor a couple degrees? idling its smooth. if i stretched the timing chain it would sputter and cough. but the car doesnt to that at all. can anyone give me any sort of ideas to what it might be? im going to look into getting a timing light tomorrow to check it out. but if you think its something else let me know and ill check it over.

 

If it's a MAF car see how it runs without the MAF plugged in...

 

its not an MAF car.

 

Disconnect the MAP and see if makes a difference.

no codes at all. the service engine light hasnt come on for it. and i know it works cause it does whenever the engine gets too warm. or when oil pressures down.

Check the MAP like I said. I have a TBI, but when I disconnect the MAP electrical connector or vacuum hose, mine runs like crap. A code does get set, though.

Don't forget about those vacuum hoses. Make sure they are all good.

Go ahead and check the timing. It can't hurt. That's about the extent of my trouble-shooting.

 

alright thanks! i spent most of tonight dicking around with a parts car i got. ill take a look in the morning.

but it seriously feels like im making no torque. struggles up hills after it reved out.
