Anyone running a 280 XFI cam in a 383?

Hey guys,

Just got my car running with a 383 after a long time putting it together. I'm tuning it myself with a Megasquirt and was wondering what the driving characteristics of this cam were like on a well tuned engine.

I would like to know what the lowest RPM you can cruise in without serious bogging or bucking. Right now, it seems like I cant get it to drive smoothly much below 1500 or so rpm no matter how I tune it. Is the cam just to big to run below this?

If you have this cam and your tuning it yourself, I would also like to know what your AFR targets are so I could get a good base line.

The engine:
383
AFR 190cc heads
LT1 converted intake
shorty headers that fit the stock cross member

thanks

Hey, If you find a good tune for it I'd be very interested in getting a copy of the file.
I'm building a 383 with the 280xfi hr cam also and using a HSR and prominator.

I've been looking around but can't find any tune files. I was hoping someone would have a database somewhere with engine specs and files to suit but cant find anything yet.

People usually dont share tunes because they are trade secrets and usually cost a lot of time or money to get perfect. Thats why there's no databases.

But, the only thing really shareable is the AFR table. VE tables are pretty easy to tune because they are based off the AFR table's targets. Especially if you have an auto tuning program like TunerStudio.

Ignition tables are not really shareable since every engine is different. It takes a dyno to get the ignition table perfect, and it has to be a dyno that can apply a static load - not a dynojet.

Never had it in a manual trans car but an auto 360" sbc hsr intake and those same heads the car ran great at all rpms on stock stall.

How much timing you running? Those heads take alot of timing it seems, much like l98 aluminum heads
