Coolant leak in car... Where's it coming from??
So I noticed the other day that when I push my car pretty hard in WOT, I can start to smell a small hint of antifreeze.
I have an 87 Iroc with a 5.7 tpi and it has working AC and Heat.
Now when I park it, sometimes I can see small slow drops coming down from where the starter is at. Now, I was vacuuming my car and lifted up my passenger floor mat and found a small puddle of coolant sitting in my car!? Idk how it gets in there, it must come from behind or on the bottom of the floor board because the top of the floor mat is dry as can be but it's all sitting under the mat.....
Could it be a freeze plug??
If I drive the car real easy and stay off of the gas, which is no fun, it doesn't leak anything.
Please help!!! And thanks!

It's hard. You have to remove most of the dash and remove the heater/ac box as well as some of the evaporator box.
You do have one hope that the leak is on the engine side of the firewall at the connection to the core, then dripping back into the cabin. Check that first, but otherwise leaky heater core.
You will need some sort of shop manual for this and take tons of pics.
There are some other threads you can search for.
Make sure the replacement heater core matches the original exactly, many don't.

Wouldn't call it hard, but wouldn't call it fun either.

Ok so basically it's because the water core is bad? Could it be a loose hose or something or no? I do have heat still.
Re: Coolant leak in car... Where's it coming from??
Yes, back in post #4 it was suggested to be sure it's not where the hoses connect at the firewall. if it's not that then it's the core. That you have heat is irrelevant to the leak...until enough coolant leaks out then you won't have heat either.
