Edelbrock Performer Manifold...How to install.?

So I got a deal on a used edelbrock performer 2101. My question is will it fit with my stock z28 hood and my q-jet and my air filter...and what exactly do I need to install this on? and is it worth the hassle...whats the power gain if any..

so far i got a full exhaust system..hooker 2055 headers, 3" straight pipes with a flowmaster at the end.

Edelbrock Performer Manifold...How to install.?
Rotate all hardware counterclockwise until loose.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

will it fit with my stock z28 hood and my q-jet and my air filter
Yes

what exactly do I need to install this on?
Tube of sealant, intake & valve cover gasket sets, handful of brass fittings from Home Depot for heater hoses and such, whatever you break taking it apart (there'll be PLENTY of that, vacuum fittings and the like), whatever "might as well"s you come across at the time like a new thermostat for example and various sensors, some coolant.

is it worth the hassle
Sure; if your stock one is broken somehow (thermostat bolt broke off for example, or it's cracked)

whats the power gain if any
On a stock LG4, basically zero; the intake isn't the bottleneck.

Good thing about it is, it has a CARB EO #. If you install it correctly, you can still get your car through inspection. One less thing you have to UNdo 2 years from now (like you'll be doing to your serious exhuast mistake). Good idea not to accumulate too many more such things, so you don't end up with an expensive lawn ornament.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Manifold...How to install.?

The 4 studs is where you lower the car onto. You have 2 carb bolt patterns to choose from-- Square bore & Spread bore.
The thing with all the nipples is for vacuum line attachments.

It unscrews but you will need a pipe plug to seal the hole if you take it out

You don't get a choice; your Q-Jet is spreadbore

Re: Edelbrock Performer Manifold...How to install.?

You can block it off with a standard plumbing hardware you can get at Home Depot or Lowes. But you will probably need that port (not necessarily all of them) to connect to your brake vacuum.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Manifold...How to install.?

Your stock carb, which you should re-use instead of that Holley, will require the rear 2 of those studs; but uses regular bolts in the front.

That particular PErformer isn't the one that will pass CA inspection. Doesn't have the EGR provision. Instant fail. Just one more thing you'll have to un- and re-do in a little under 2 years. Don't throw away, lose, or damage ANYTHING you take off. Take LOTS of pics so you don't have quite so much of a struggle getting it back like it's supposed to be.

Note that if you put that Holley on there, it will cover up that port where that nipple thing now is, and render it altogether unuseable; and it will require a VERY low-profile pipe plug to plug it without interfering with the carb. In fact, seems like the last time I put together that combo, I had to MAKE a plug that would work.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Manifold...How to install.?

Yes, double nut the stud and turn the bottom nut to twist them out. Won't hurt to give it a shot of some penetrating oil prior to make sure it isn't seized.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Manifold...How to install.?

i see you are in Cali.. this intake doesn't have an egr provision, so you will never, ever be able to pass an emissions test with this intake on it.. just keep that in mind..

having said that, you might gain a little bot of power and maybe even a little bit of fuel economy, but honestly the stock aluminum intakes they were putting on these cars in the 80's aren't really a bottleneck in the system.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Manifold...How to install.?

last time I put together that combo, I had to MAKE a plug that would work.
If memory serves, I bought a ¼" brass pipe plug at like HD or something, cut the "head" off of it, cut a screwdriver slot in it, and Teflon-taped it to death.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Manifold...How to install.?

Orignally, that fitting serves the vacuum systems of the car, as distinct from the engine.... HVAC, cruise control, etc.

Sure, you can plug just about anything.

Where is your timing at? Weren't you having a timing related issue right after the swap?

So you're saying you think you have a vacuum leak? Check all ports and vacuum lines. Grab a timing light and check your timing too while you're at it. I remember a post to which you said your vacuum advanced canister was not hooked up or something. This has been taken care of, yes?

Re: Edelbrock Performer Manifold...How to install.?

So I finally took my car to the mechanic..aparently it had nothing to do with the manifold...Suprisingly it was a bad/faulty distributor...He ended up replacing a faulty control module inside the dizzy...but wow...it was incredible how much of a huge difference it made..It literally made my car launch!
