Pre-87 heads on 92 Z28

Well, here's the story....I bought a 406 on Ebay and i'm going through the carb swap from my TPI (actually Miniram) and I am running across the problem where my serpentine system doesn't bolt up to the front of the motor. The PS Bracket or the A/C Bracket bolt holes don't line up. A local speed shop says its because the motor has the "Old-school" style heads. The heads I have on this crate motor is S64210274 Procomp Aluminum heads.

I guess the bolt-holes on the 'butt-end' of the heads are different. Does that sound right? So my question and point to this thread is to find out if I just need to put on a newer style head & all done? The bolt-hole pattern on top center intake bolts no matter to me, i'll get an intake manifold to match.

ps....for those who are wondering why switch from Miniram to carb is because the miniram didn't fit. The bolt holes lined up perfect but the intake ports were misaligned. The manifold ports were the same exact size, however the manifold ports sat below the cylinder head intake ports.

They are a Vortec-style head. To put an "older" intake on them is only going to cause problems. A Vortec Miniram should fit.

I kept looking at Procomp heads when my plans were to build up a Gen I SBC. Best I could ever conclude about them is they are cheap. That you are having problems with the bolt hole alignment for the accessories surprises me not.

Re: Pre-87 heads on 92 Z28

"Vortec" is GM marketing gibberish for "we moved the intake ports toward the valve cover".

A non-Vortec intake on Vortec heads:

If this situation looks familiar, then you need a Vortec MiniRam.

Do that, instead of swapping to carb... sure it looks expensive, but by the time you buy a carb, intake, distrbutor, fuel pressure regulator, and about a million little "gotcha"s, the RIGHT MiniRam will probably be cheeeeeper. Call TPIS and see.

Companies that advertise "bolt holes drilled for both intake styles" should spend eternity in Hell trying to make this work on their own DISABLED (by the FAIL) car as punishment for their outright FRAUD.
