headlight issues!

83 TA. Headlights won't pop up or go down. When I manually crank them up and turn on the lights, the pass side headlight motor closes it halfway down. I keep turning lights back on and it eventually closes it shut. The driver side doesn't do anything.

What is causing this problem and what can I do to fix it?

Thanks

Re: headlight issues!

It is common for the gears in the headight motors to strip out..... but I suspect you already know that.

Are you saying they don't even TRY to open or close on their own?? Can you hear the motors turning when you turn the headlights off and on?

Paging electrical gurus! I think this is not the usual "mechanical" headlight issue.

They don't even try to pop up. Can't hear the motor. But when up, when I turn the lights on, the pass. headlight tries to flip down.

Re: headlight issues!

You might want to post up in the Electrical section of the board. If you're not hearing the motors even try AND one of them is trying to close when it should be open I think you got a problem that is mostly electrical in nature, maybe entirely electrical in nature.

Re: headlight issues!

Search the elec section, many threads about that . Yours is controlled by three relays under the hood, one or more or the switch is malfunctioning.

Re: headlight issues!

I had something similar like this with my firebird it could actually be the headlight motor relay that's gone bad. When mine went bad the motor stayed up on the on position and was draining te cars battery. So for u the relay might have blown and is giving the cat mixed signals when u are hiring the switch.
