should I be concerned??

Thought I had this motor combo figured out, but maybe not.

64cc aluminum heads
5cc flat tops at -.002 deck height
.039 gasket
comp cam 08-501-8 IVC 35*??
5.7 motor

Looks like 10.4 static and over 9 dynamic

Can anyone suggest a diff cam or any comment?

Run a similar setup with iron vortecs. Setup works decent, but wish I went with more cam. Either the 502 or 503.

What intake are you using and what are your goals?

Stock tpi with ported base. Looking for a good running street car. Picked a conservative cam to work with the low revving intake. The high dynamic # has me concerned about ping.

What's your beef with the 501?

Re: should I be concerned??

The cam works really well and is great for the street. Now I am not sure if it is a limitation of the cam, my intake or heads, but I feel it falls flat very quickly and stops pulling by about 5k(yes I know that is tpi, but it does not rub me the right way). Going to some trial and error in the spring with a new intake setup.

I have been trying to tune my car as well, and keep getting knock. Think it is from an exhaust leak as well as it hitting the frame a touch, but now you have me thinking as well. Changing the exhaust this winter as well, so we will see if that cures it. I did notice that the more that I beat on the car, the less knock there is, but that could be anything as well.

Look at my sig for my mods.

Re: should I be concerned??

I am not 100% sure because the motor is basically stock with a cam only. The motor is a 98 vortec 350 from a pickup. Stock rebuild(head gaskets, flat top pistons with I believe valve relief and 64cc chambers). I think they are rated at 9.5:1 from GM, but I am sure the cam changed that a bit.
