micrometer and caliper question?

micrometer and caliper question?

does anyone know what the machined piece that comes in micrometer sets is called? its used to check the accuracy of the micrometer before you take your measurement. thnxs for responses

It is a Jo Block. Can also be called a gauge block.

We old folks used to call that a "standard" but I think your instrument supplier will be good with whatever you call it.

"Standard" is what we always called the slug that comes with the micrometer set, too.

"Gauge block" was reserved for a units from a set of stackable blocks. Anything that defies gravity is fully deserving of having its own name.
