PLEASE HELP! My car dies when I hit the gas.

Ok I'll give a little background on this first.

So my starter blew out about a week ago and had sat until yesterday when I had the money to get it fixed. Put a brand new Ultima Starter on there. The battery was completely dead so I jumped the car. The car finally started.

Huzzah!

It idles just fine and even idles fine when I put it in drive. But when I step on the gas to drive, it tries going forward and dies. It has never had this problem before.

I noticed that the battery gauge is reading right at 13 though, and if I turn on some appliances (heater, hazard lights, stereo) it starts to dip lower (probably around 12). Is the battery just not strong enough to power the car when driving? Starts right back up.

Please help me out, the starter (with labor) already put me out $200+

Car Specs:

1991 Camaro RS? (papers say RS, previous owner tried to turn into a z28 i think)
Automatic
5.0L 305 Carb'd

Note: The guy who fixed my car also said that there were some wires hanging off the tranny that he wired back on. Could that have something to do with it?

Is the check engine ligt on? If so, start there, try the paper clip trick for getting the codes.
Otherwise I'd check the fuel pressure & remove the air cleaner to look for vacuum leaks.

Check all your ground wires. I remember when I did my engine swap, I got everything wired up, and went to go for a test drive. It would run, and every time I would hit the gas it would die, and then fire right back up after it died. Turned out to be I left some grounds disconnected from the back of the head, so they would swing away and break connection everytime I moved.

Agreed.... I had he same problem twice. first time was a bad connection that had loosened over time. Next was a vacuum leak so both very possible.

I replaced my starter 7 months ago and had the same issue on my 91 Camaro RS 305. My problem was the ground system was rusted/corroded and replacing the lead for the ground to the alternator and to the chassis resolved it for me. Not sure if the new alternator was more powerful, but I think my old one was bad alot longer than I thought and it the ground system was able to deal with the rust/corrosion. Good luck!
