Re: sorry if this is a dumb question

If you replace the entire wiring harness, it should be fairly plug and play hardware wise. They use different ECU's, different wiring harnesses, and sometimes different sensors.

yeah thanks I really, really don't want to rewire the car, so performance wise can I get decent performance from a tbi. Im not a racer, im looking for a nice sound, burnouts and decent fuel milage, not much more than that.

To swap from a 305 TBI to a 350 TPI as previously answered requires modifying the existing or replacing the Wiring and ECU plus alot of time and tools.

If you just want better sound, just put headers on with a better exhaust. It is easier than trying to swap motors.

If your not a racer as you state it.. Then you don't really need better power. The 350 a little bit better, but requires alot of work that you already stated you that you are in no way a mechanic..

The 305 should be fine if all you want for Burnouts, Sound and Mileage.. Just change the exhaust.

You could always put a 350 in and keep the TBI
Some easy swap parts required ( a 350 chip in your existing computer , etc ); no wiring changes

Going from Tbi to Tpi. You have to re-pin your harness where it connects to the ecm. Not very difficult. You will need the 350 knock sensor, ecm, chip, injectors. You may possibly have to change the fuel pump too.

I haven't seen it yet so I don't know what his ideal of complete is. and it sounds like with all the great knowledge on here I could do this..

He could be talking about just the actual intake. Lower manifold, runners, plenum. You still need fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator ,injectors and Throttle body. Then there are the sensors.

stock to stock ,yes tpi is better, but tpi won't make power up high in the rpms like a tbi would. I would stick to tbi if you already have that.

They are both easy to build.

TBI will allow for higher RPM's with less Torque than TPI
TPI will allow for more Torque than TBI but fall on it's face at higher RPM's

Both require a computer and basically same components.. Wiring is a little different.. It is a matter of preference.

It takes me several hours traveling on I-81 to get to Maryland... Don't ask me how much I hate cold weather. Hell froze over and without Windchill it's 18 degrees.. I live 24 miles from Canada.
