I've been looking for 3 days on the forum and couldn't find anything that'll help me out. My camaro crapped out on a hill. When i press the has the engine revs up but the car won't go anywhere and when I put it in park and rev it it will stop at a little under 3k rpm. Is it a transmission problem or is it something else? I'm stuck and can't find out what to do. One more question what rpm is the car suppose to idle in when its in gear. I'm at 450 and I think its to low.

 

Is it running rough?
Check eng light on?
Check tranny fluid.

 

Check codes. Sounds like a clogged cat or retarded timing. Do the exhaust manifolds glow in the dark?

 

It was running rough then I changed the ICM and it started running fine..check engine light only comes on when I use overdrive and tranny fluid is good it was missing a little but I topped it off

 

I don't have aanything to check the codes with :'( I was thinking clogged or retarded timing too but wouldn't it bog? I don't think the manifold glow would that be from back pressure from clogged cat?

 

Sounds like a transmission issue to me, smell the trans fluid ( i know that sounds wierd) but see if it smells burnt. is the condition the same throughout all gears ? if so then it may be something else

 

No it doesn't sound weird I will do that next..going up a large hill it smelt like burnt clutch =O..it won't get the last gear no more than 70mph after that the engine just keeps reving but the car doesn't move..transmission rebuild is 850 :'( my dad is too old to do it or help me out :/
