Strange sound while driving

Hey guys, new to the forums. Just got myself an 87 Z28 auto with a 305 and today i noticed a weird sound pulling out of my driveway. It was like a metallic shearing sound, almost as if a metal fan was slightly scraping up against something. It's coming from somewhere under the hood. I only notice it when i start driving and it only lasts a few seconds. It doesn't seem to be RPM dependent and it doesn't affect the cars performance. yet... I'm going out to take a look later so I'll post further information. Just wondering if any of you have had anything like this happen?

I'll state the obvious. When it gets cold outside you can notice more power steering pump noise and other accessories. Could start there first. My wife's car (2.4L GM) was making a horrible shearing/popping sound last winter. I diagnosed a bad bearing in the alternator with a screw driver listening to it with the motor running. I changed it out with a reman'd one all good again.

Thanks, I was thinking it sounded like a bearing of some sort. Only problem is that it doesn't do it sitting in the driveway, only when I start driving. Maybe something to do with the tranny
