What temp fan switch to get?

I posted this in the cooling section also, but I figured this would get a bit more exposure.

Car is 84 T/A, single electric fan.

What temp fan switch should I get to go with a 180* thermostat?

If I run a 180 T-stat to go with a 205 on, 195 off Fan switch, will the fan have less of a duty cycle or more? Would I be better off going with a 195 on 185 off switch?

The reason I'm asking is because the connector on my fan switch melted off and I need to get a new one (as well as try and find a way to keep the lead from melting off in the future). I just want to get one that will fit best with my current application (Aluminum Radiator, 180* T-stat).

Any and all advice is welcome! Thanks!

I'd go with the 195/185 myself, considering in theory the 180 T-stat should be open at ...well 180. I'd be more concerned as to why I'm melting terminals off...that doesn't sound right.

The heat from the headers is melting it when I let the car run at High idle in the morning's to warm up. 2300rpm for 2-3 min, kick down to lower idle, around 1800 for another minute before it'll kick down to normal idle at around 800 rpm or so.

The headers have pretty much turned all the plastic components of the switch to a melty goo. It was fine during the summer as there wasn't that much warming up to do. I've got some of those spark plug boot covers that supposedly protect from the heat that I'm going to try and cover it with just to see if it will work when I install the new one.

So, a new Jet Fan switch it is. The old one seemed to work fine with my set up, turning on and off just fine. I'll have to see who's cheaper, Jet or Hypertech.

Ahhh...header heat...that makes sense. They must sit closer to the switch than my shortie headers do. I do bend the tab down a little on the switch for extra distance, and I've had no issues.

Can't remember, but it's either Jegs or Summit sells fan switches too. Thats where I got mine.
