intake port matching to heads?
intake port matching to heads?
Hi Guys, I am a little confused about intake port matching to heads. I have AFR210 heads and in the installation notes it says to use a Felpro 1206 gasket, but do not match the intake to this gasket because it doesn't quite fit the head ports. When I look at various intakes i see they say to use either a 1205 or a 1206 gasket depending on the intake.
Is there an intake that directly matches the AFR210 heads? Do I use a 1205 type intake and port match it to the head not the gasket? Do I use a 1206 intake?
As usual thanks.

Re: intake port matching to heads?
An intake that's a little larger than the heads, is about ideal.
You DO NOT want one that's smaller than the heads. If you have that, the air rushes down the runners, exits into the head chambers which now look like a plenum, slows down, and ... velocity ceases.
You also don't want to port an intake to match the heads any more than just a little. Otherwise you end up creating a big bulb-shaped chamber there. Again, another transition into a plenum, and the air comes to a slowdown.
As any big-block builder can tell you, people have been running square-port (big) intakes on oval-port (small) heads for years, with good results.
