trouble with stuck tap in thermostat bolt hole
It's not the best shot but I'm hoping you all will be able to see what I'm working with. So hey y'all, been a while since I've been on here and its been a while since I've done much with the camaro to. But I'm ready to get working again. So I got this tap sticking out of one of the thermostats bolt holes and I've done some work trying get it out but it has yet to budge from what I can tell. Iv tried so much of trying to tap it back out with a flathead and a hammer, tried using a punch and a hammer, and lots and lots of PB blaster. I've even tried getting a socket with jb weld to stick on it so I can pull it out but that didn't work either. What are my other options? I started to just take off the tpi plenum and all that but I don't have a long enough torx driver for that so tearing the intake off is a no go at this point. Sorry about the formatting my phone's not letting me make paragraphs. Thanks.

I'd use some heat on the intake around the stuck tap, not on it, and some good needle nose pliers along with an adjustable wrench. How did you get to this point in the first place?

Re: trouble with stuck tap in thermostat bolt hole
It's always hard removing something like that. Normally a hammer and a punch is used to break the tap then the hole is redrilled and a heli-coil installed to repair the threads.
Another option is to place a nut over what's left of the tap and welding the two together. The weld won't stick to the aluminum. If the weld is good enough, the nut can then be used to extract the tap. JB weld isn't good enough.

I don't have any tools to heat it.
The threads were pinched so i had to re thread it with the tap.

I've been trying to find someone with a welder that could help me but I've had no luck, I didn't know it wouldn't work well with the aluminum though.

Re: trouble with stuck tap in thermostat bolt hole
The problem I see with welding to the tap is that the material is generally very hard and brittle and you're likely to cristalize it with the welding so that it's even more brittle. Then it will just break again. Breaking the tap into pieces is the only method that has ever worked worth a damn for me. That's why you can't use enough oil when tapping threads, especially in aluminum. You also have to go just a half turn at a time when things get tight and keep backing it out to clear the threads.
I have had to drill the end of a tap out before using a carbide bit. Drilling hard material with the carbide bit is like drilling concrete. It just chews its way through and makes a mess. Plus it takes a while. Hard to save threads that way.
