1989 Iroc-z 350 rebuild no spark
1989 Iroc-z 350 rebuild no spark
ok guys so this is my problem. I have a 1989 camaro 350 T.P.I that i recently rebuild the engine well a shop did. i started it up cranked but no start, found out the injectors were bad. Replaced the injectors cranked it it started up fine let it run for awhile took it for a drive around the block it was great parked it. Today i got on going to do a flush of the cooling system heated up the fans came on fine then my rmp gauge started going haywire up and down then dropped to zero rmp with the engine running smooth. thought i was odd it ran about a minute and just shut off no sputtering or anything just like i turned the key to the off position. started up fine and then went haywire then a minute or less died again. tried starting it up again and nothing checked for spark at the wire end no spark whatsoever. checked coil wire end no spark at all. i need help big time thanks in advanced below i will put some of the things i have tried. before anything i did put di. grease between ignition control module and distributor.
replace
ignition control module
new cap and rotor
new accel ignition coil
checked
all wireset was fully plugged at distributor end and spark plug end
broken wires
also i have tried looking for a way to test ignition control module but cant seem to find a way to test outside of car. is there a specific resistance i can check or test i can do to it outside of car. want to make sure the new ignition control module isn't burnt out

Little late for this:
But to new guys having the same issue,
Had the same this happen today after my friend turned the cap to adjust the timing. Drive it 3 blocks and dead, on the middle of the road, tow it home, read a web page on step by step how to check this issue, as a Iroc z parts supplier, I had all needed (lucky) so this or these cars have the same issues all the time, it's most likely the pick up coil in the back of the distributor where the 2 plugs go into, while your there, clean the cap really good with a clean cloth, mark up your wires so that your firing order is right on, take off the 2 screws and replace, just make sure that your cap fits snug in between the small grooves for the dis, that's very important! Don't need to disconnect your battery just shut off the key, I just saved about 400-600 with parts labor, tow truck and the repair shop for there labor, if u never done this job before? No biggie, just have a Phillip screw driver is all what's needed for the cap and the pick up coil, and maybe a market to mark your spark plug wires and whalla! Your started...... Again.......
Very very common to god bad and to fry, just make sure u buy a good one, and check your wires in the back of the pick up coil also, as the cap will sometime squish it and go bad also..
Good luck and I hope this helps.....
