Re: Motor info...
487 were a decent casting as far as smogger heads go, they made a (x) version of these with bigger runners, and optional 2.02s i believe, dont quote me on that lol, with no port, polish, bowl blend work done to the heads, id say u got a decent little engine with numbers probably respectably close to 290 horse and maybe 310 torque.

Well I forgot to mention that it was also bored .040 over as we'll, so how much more hp does that add on, and what would that make my engine be?

The main thing most likely affecting your power output right now, and your greatest opportunity for improvement, is low compression. That's going to be a function of the choice of pistons; whatever they are, if they are dished especially but also if they're flat tops but have the usual extra .020" of deck clearance added, your compression is WAY down in the 8s somewhere. A decent set of heads is the first thing to do for improvement.

Re: Motor info...
Since i had the motor built for me..frm block up..ill find out wat type of pistons were used for this project build? Im only askin bc i wanna make sure I've paid for wat I've askd for...? I asked for,(& was told) that my hp was or should be in the range of 350/375+ ? I was also told that with my block being bored .040 over, that it made my engine bigger so to speak..turning it from a 350 to a 356.sumthng? Is this true...?

With those heads you're not close to 350 HP. Below 300 is more likely.
Boring the block increases the displacement a negligible amount. It makes no difference in performance. It's 356 cubic inches, but it's still a 350 for all practical purposes.

Re: Motor info...
very slight gains with boring being, it increases c.r a minute bit being bigger bore versus smaller chamber at that point think how gears work, and yeah u would need to have domed pistons matched to those heads to make any decent c.r flattops will usually put u at like 8.5 to 1 range with a 76 cc smogger head, find some 350 tuned port heads from another brother in the third gen brotherhood for some decent power gains especially if you have flattop pistons putting your right under 10-1 and make a more efficient 325 horse versus the probably sub par 300 or less you are making now, anyone can build u an engine and tell you its gonna make x amount of power, but usually not the case on a set of unworked smogger heads, 350/375 is outta question thats the kinda power im making with my worked to the max 305 tpi (081) casted heads 10.1 to 1 compression and a .487/.508 lift and 232/244 duration cam. figure out what pistons you have and go from there, spend a couple evenings doing a head swap, and u wil be much happier with your motor, and a edelbrock rpm on a cam that small? did they reccomend that thats killing the bottom end of your motor with a cam that small, thats a 1500-6500 intake, way too big for your cam, robbing power at this point along with driveability. u want a performer, which is an idle-5500 range intake.

Well thnkx for the help..yea, the intakes a performance intake, and the heads were milled and given new springs n the whole nine..the pistons were hydratech flattops I believe..n yes, ur so rite bc ppl will tell u anything! so that's y I'm asking a bunch of questions to see if the truth(et least a lil bit..) is n the ppl I'm dealing with? But first n foremost jus to kno my vehicle. If ur any gud et electronics or well informed about headers, check out my posts in exhaust & electronics- I've got some questions up that I really need help with- thanks

Re: Motor info...
did the machine shop tell u you were gonna make that much power? or was it the person who assembled the rest of the motor for you? because whoever it is i want what they are smoking for next fourth of july lol. none the less, u have a motor with some decent power as far as stockish build small block chevys go, could run a hell of alot better with some better heads, preferably 64cc with the flattops u currently have or some aftermarket vortecs with 67cc or so, summit sells some at a decent price in your cam range, u would be so much happier i can promise you that, and i think they are around 500-600 bucks. prolly around only double what u spent having those 487s redone up, and if they told u 375 horse i really wanna question how well they set up your heads to your cam, unless there was confusion where u told them u had a cam with like .566 lift . none the less your in a bind my friend but us guys hear we can guide you through this issue.
