Have a few questions about torque converters

Im pretty sure the stock stall for our cars is 1200. Im rebuilding my Lo5 and im going for more low end torque. I read on a post a few days ago that a guy installed a converter out of an S10 (dont remember what year) And the difference was amazing. My question is, Am i looking for a higher stall or a lower stall? Im not quite sure how they work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks you guys

Im reading this site http://carissma.lefora.com/2011/01/2...ll-converters/ and theyre saying an s10 with a 2025 stall has a big difference in performance

Re: Have a few questions about torque converters

That Carissma article explains the "S-10" converters pretty well, as well as what years/vehicles they came in.
Your stock stall is probably 1400-1600 rpm. I don't think you'll find any that stall as low as 1200 rpm, unless your engine is hitting on only 6 or 7 cylinders.
I have an S-10 converter behind the LG4 in the '86 Firebird. To the casual driver/observer, it's pretty much transparent. But I'd say it's defintely a better match even for the rpm-limited tractor motor. It's snappier to drive and the 60' times improved about .10 sec.

Re: Have a few questions about torque converters

I believe that the C4 corvette had the highest stall converter offered in the 700R4 - it was a 2150 RPM stall converter iirc - which most daily driving you would never really notice but it does make a difference over a stock 'tight' converter when racing or running hard from the stoplights. It can usually be had for the same price as the low performance converters at rebuild time.
