very bad MPG
very bad MPG
i have an 87 v8 305 tpi. is 11 mpg city a normal thing? i know i have a bad o2 sensor and need new spark plugs and wires, but would these three things effect fuel economy but a lot or a little?

CHECK:
· Engine thermostat for faulty part (always open) or for wrongheat range.
· Fuel Pressure.
· Owner's driving habits.
· Is A/C"ON" full time (Defroster mode ..ON)?
· Are tires at correct pressure?
· Are excessively heavy loads being carried?
· Is acceleration too much, too often
· Perform Diagnostic Circuit Check (pull codes).
· Check air cleaner element filter for dirt or being plugged.
· Visually and physically) check:
o Vacuum hoses for splits, kinks, and proper connections
o Ignition wires for cracking, hardness, and proper connections.
· Check ignition timing
· Remove spark plugs. Check for cracks, wear, Improper gap,burned electrodes or heavy deposits.
· Check compression.
· Check Transmission Converter Clutch for proper operation - Use"Scan" tool if available
· Check for dragging brakes.
· Check for exhaust system restriction.
