Cold Start Issue - 86 TPI

Hi All,

I've done a lot of searched on this forum along with other camaro sights and still nobody has posted a consistant solution for this.

I'm having an issue with my new engine build. It's an 86 Camaro originally a 305 TPI, has been replaced with a 383 TPI, AIR removed, Smog removed, no EVAP canister hooked up at this time. Custom programmed PROM from Hawk's.

When i turn the ignition, the engine fires up without any issue but will die within 2-3 seconds, in order to keep it alive, I need to rev the engine up around 2000-2500 to keep it alive. If i dont do this it appears as if the engine is chasing a vacuum leak and will surge between 500 and 2000 RPM. After about 30 seconds i can stop messing with the throttle and the engine will idle out pefectly around 700 RPM and can sit for hours like that with now surging.

All the sensors on the engine are new, i just replaced the 9th injector cold start switch as I swapped that one over from the original block. This did not solve the issue. My throttle body sticks a little bit and needs to be pushed back to its home position at times or it will idle in the 1200-1500 region, probably need to replace the accelerator cable and eventually replace the throttle body.

Any suggestions, this is the last issue i have with the engine, eveything else is coming together except for this.

Thanks for any help.
