86 Iroc drivability concern

Hello everyone! This would be my first post on this site ever, Ive used thirdgen.org before to solve some past issues, but after some searching I couldn't find a solution to my problem. About two months ago I purchased my 86 iroc and it drove strong, like a dream. A few weeks ago I started to feel like ive lost power and the car has become hard to start. When it does start it stumbles and idles at about 500 rpm's until it picks up and idles around 1500 then warms up and idles around 650. Ive tried to give it some gas when it stumbles on startup and ive heard some backfiring out the tail pipe. Unfortunately that's not the only anomaly, when I snap throttle I can here a sucking sound coming from the throttle body for a second and the rpm actually drops briefly before picking up. She stumbles on takeoff sometimes and when ever I make a hard turn. I'm thinking about hooking up a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel line because im thinking it may be the pump. Am I missing something else it could be?

You need to put some diagnostic tools on it. Check the fuel pressure. Check your CTS readings. Check your spark plugs (rarely a spark plug issue but its worth checking to see if any are damaged or fouled), check your plug wires.

Re: 86 Iroc drivability concern

Thanks Bud, Ill do that. Ill start with a fuel pressure test first. I hope I don't have to replace a pump worst case scenario. I know previous owner said he replaced it back in 2009.
