Re: broken bolts
That's an easy one, if you have access to a welder, weld a nut onto it, and loosen it off, it may take a few times, but it will come off. or get a bolt extractor, they make them that will fit over the stud and turn it out. Shouldn't have a problem

Re: broken bolts
Auotzone should, or napa or one of the parts houses, they should have them, it just goes over the top of the stud, and it'll turn it out (or should) welder is the best way if you have access to one...

Re: broken bolts
I hate to bring the ants to your picnic but there isn't enough of the bolt left for any of the stud extractors I have, and I have them all. The welder is your only real hope of extracting that bolt. Or you can get out your drill and try your best to drill it out. I do them all here, even the ones I don't break. I have pretty solid success using cobalt bits, including left handed drills that will sometimes spin the bolt out. The trouble in your case is that the bolt is probably corroded to the aluminum and isn't going to want to break loose. That's where the welding trick is good because it heats up the bolt and helps break it loose. A torch also works when you have something to grab onto. What I suspect will happen if you use a stud extracter on what's left of that bolt is you will spin off the end of it and then end up having to cut it back down flat so that you can get centered on it to drill it. One thing you can't use enough of on old rusty stuff is PB Blaster, or any other good penetrating oil.

Re: broken bolts
I've removed allot of broken bolts, that one is likely seized, heat it, real hot and let it cool, or heat around it, the nut trick would be ideal, but if it isn't an option I'd certainly try one of these http://www.irwin.com/tools/screw-bol...olt-extractors I've seen them at AZ, Advance, and Napa, I have the same thing Matco or Mac branded. It might work, you're not out much if it doesn't, only then would I l.h. drill since it also may work, and then use a e-z out or other spline type extractor, I have most if not all, and prefer this type . Little advise absolutely do not break the extractor off in the bolt, you won't likely be drilling it out without trashing the manifold.

That is hell. The extractors are harder than the bolt and dull even the cobalt bits. I keep a carbide bit in my drawer just for those times. It drills like crap but it will chew through just about anything.

Re: broken bolts
Grind or file the top of the stud flat. Center punch EXACTLY in the center, real deep. Drill into it with a small bit (1/8" or so to start), then progressively larger ones. With luck it should give up the fight at about 5/16".
Heli-coil the threads, which are almost certainly destroyed, just like everybody else's. Use stainless steel bolts when you put it back together.

Awesome! I have that set. Mine's Matco but same thing. I thought from your photo that there wasn't enough bolt left for that extractor to grip. Glad I was wrong.

Glad you got it out, I had one of those grade 8 studs break off flush on my intake, the distributor hold down. Talk about cussing that thing like a dog.....

Re: broken bolts
if you are good at tig welding my buddy came up with an idea of tig welding a new head right smack dab in the center of broken stud and just turning it out. it requires precise aim and concentration, but worked for the most part in the past. every time i had one they never got me down. steel bolts in aluminum never play well with each other
opps lol guess im a little late for this one...ohh well whatever gets the job done. 2 thumbs up for "tcrisp"
