Vette LT1 Starter Bolt Questions...

I have a 91 305 TPI 5 speed....
And it's time to replace the starter...
I got Jet Hot Hooker 2055's and I've been reading that many people have been having great luck with reman corvette starters (which are mini/gear reduction) units...

Looks like it has a short and long bolt... (vette starter)
And I'm not sure my 91 stock one does...

Looking at these starters...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Corvette-Sta...84de70&vxp=mtr

This looks like the short bolt...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/380622972401...84.m1423.l2649

Is my stock long bolt going to work for the other side, or do I need 2 new bolts for LT1 starter?

Thanks,

Rafael

That's part of the point, I can't seem to find new ones.
and I still don't know exactly which ones I need.

Re: Vette LT1 Starter Bolt Questions...

typically (and I'm not for sure if this is an ABSOLUTE), but short bolt, long bolt are for the small flywheel, and the long bolt, long bolt ones are for the big flywheel. I used a 98 chevy truck (R motor) gear reduction for my 12.5 compression 454... they are smaller, and it worked better than the "high performance" no nose-cone one that is available....

so if you have the 2 long bolt starter, you need another one.... I think the R motor has offset bolts (not in line) so you have to make sure your block has those bolt holes available.

That's what I'm using. A 96 Tahoe gear reduction unit. Only thing I will warn u of, the gear assembly is made of plastic. Mine got too hot and stripped. Otherwise, excellent unit

Re: Vette LT1 Starter Bolt Questions...

First off, make sure you get a 93-94 LT1 starter. The 95-newer ones are wired differently and won't work on a 3rd gen car. If I remember right, I think I was able to re-use my long bolt, but had to scrounge up a shorter, short bolt. If you go the parts store, they usually have all different lengths of starter bolts in the "Help" section. You can probably ask the guy at the counter which "Help" starter bolts are correct for the 93-94 LT1 starter, and go from there. Pissed me off when I found out I couldn't use the 95 LT1 starter since i got a great deal on one that was practically new. Luckily, my buddy has a 95 Formula, and he happened to have a 94 starter, which he couldn't use on his 95, so we just traded starters. The 94 starter he gave me looked quite used, but I've had it in there for 3 years now and it still works great. Not too trustful of that Ebay ad since it says 92-96 for the application. You definitely need the 93-94 unit for a 3rd gen, so just find one that fits 93-94 f-bodies w/LT1 engine and you should be set.

Re: Vette LT1 Starter Bolt Questions...

Well, I thank everyone for the experience and honesty... but that "bolts right up" seems to have about 5 side notes of, this and that... Glad I asked...

Just ordered a Summit Racing mini starter... has new bolts it comes with and "bolts right up"...
