Spark Plug Condition

Hi all.
I have just changed my dizzy to a normal advance unit from the CC one (the carb was already changed).

Anyway, looking at the spark plugs I am guessing the below is so Black because the car was running rich due to the non CC of the carb.

I reckon i'll replace these (along with the leads), they are Champion RV12YC6 (are these correct for 305 engine?) and then set the timing correctly (awaiting my timing light to rock up).

Does this sound right? Just looking for clarification.

Re: Spark Plug Condition

You'll probably get better results with a standard YC (.035" gap) than a YC6 (.060" gap); the rest of your ignition system, especially the cap rotor & wires, will last ALOT longer.

That does indeed look like it's been somewhat rich, but doesn't look out of the ordinary. However you'll find that once you get the distributor tuned right you'll probably need to revisit the carb tuning, and therefore it doesn't too much matter what the plugs look like now.
