Gas Tank Filler Neck Leak -- 92 RS

Ok, so after years of never being able to convince Chevrolet that my car needed the recall fix and living with gas fumes on full tanks, I have my tank out and sure enough it has been leaking at the filler neck for years.. I couldn't prove it by looking under the car because the exhaust heat shield traps the leaking gas and hides it... Oh, great idea huh...

The question is to replace the tank or have the neck rewelded.. Looking for some thoughts from others.. Is there a good source for a new tank.??. I find them on the internet but its not clear about the finish on the inside and outside of the tank.. The old tank appears to have a coating on the inside and galvanizing on the outside.. Can one be bought that way or are all the after market ones just plain steel all around with no coating?

Thanks...

You might be able to get a radiator shop to resolder it for you.

I got same problem and cant pass the evap test here in california. Went to Gm today told the guy about the recall, he looks at my year of my car and laughs, then says theres no recalls for my vin i the computer, bullshit...So I am in the same boat, not sure if I want to install a new tank or try and have it fixed.

As to the leaking gas tank, the chev guys will laugh at you and point to their outdated computer system.. Of course it isn't there, they don't want to fix it.. YOU MUST take a copy of the recall document I posted on here some time again.. They can't argue with that.. If they do, take it to the district manager and keep working your way up.. It is a safety recall and they have to fix it...

As to the pressure problem, it is probably that valve in front of the rear axle.. You can find them in cars in junk yards, clean them and they will work maybe..
