Help ! Burnt Wire In Harness Found - What Is This? ( pics )
Troubleshooting as to why my dual fan radiators are not operating. '92 Z28 L98 TPI.
1- I replaced the Thermostat, Radiator Fan Relay, Coolant Temp Sensor at the intake manifold, Fan Temp Switch located between cylinders 6 & 8 with no results.
2 - I checked the yellow 20 AMP fuse closest to the battery/ passenger firewall, it is good.

3 - Engine cold, I turn on the A/C and expect the fan or fans to turn on, they do not after replacing parts listed step #1.
- Fondling that wire harness, just behind the battery and just below the plastic coolant reservoir I find a bare and broken wire from a plug. Is this my problem and how to repair it since its too close to the connnector housing? I dont have a pin repair kit, nor know the gauge size of this particular wire I need to repair. What does this wire control? Thanks in advance guys

Another pic for clarity.

that harness with the burnt wire is for your fans, that is the problem right there
As for repairing, get a weatherpack pin remover tool and a new terminal and seal. Using the tool remove the terminal from the connector, snip off wire before the affected area, solder & heat shrink on a new length of wire, cut to length and install new connector pin w/ seal, insert into weatherpack housing and snap shut. DONE
A quick and dirty fix is to use 2 scotch blocks and bypass that wire over the connector but this is for temporary use only, scotch blocks are demon spawn!! They will give you ussues over time

Is that a fusible link? Its hard to tell in the pic.

No, it's not. It's just a wire. Cut out the bad part, strip both ends back, "tin" the ends and then solder them together (oh, and don't forget to put a length of heat-shrink tubing on the wire BEFORE you solder them together!). Then slide the heat shrink tubing over the repair and shrink it down over it (a Bic lighter works fine if you don't have a fancy heat gun). Done and done. Good as new and it will NEVER give you a problem again.

Looking at these diagrams and the way its burnt, I'm fairly certain that is a fusible link.
I could be dead wrong because I'm not a camaro guy so I'd check it out.

Firebird usues the same connector, and those are the thick (10 or 12 gu.?), 12V power supply wires to the fans. Fuse links are way upstream of the connector in the pic.

I just checked all 5 of my cars, 89-92 birds.
Sorry for the krappy pic but see the lettering? It is definitely a fusible link.

Re: Help ! Burnt Wire In Harness Found - What Is This? ( pics )
Just repaired the orange wire, it is part of the fusible link circuit but it fried again when i turned the ignition. Further troubleshooting reveals the primary fan motor is borderline seizing up on me. So im gonna check my stash of parts from an 88 Iroc Z and do the swap. I'll update as I go....
