help, cooling system related

so I have to remove my heads and when I took one off the old crummy gasket fall to pieces and some of the pieces fell into the blocks water paths.

now the question is how do I get those pieces out? the water level is low (from the top anywas) but still has water in the bottom. could I just fill it up and let the pieces flow out with water? any one got ideas?

You could try that. Might work, not sure if the gaskets float though. Or, reach down in there with forceps or the like; turn it upside down and shake it; pop the freeze plugs out and reach in that way; take it to the quarter car wash and blast it with the wand; I'm sure lots of other creative approaches could be found.

heres a question, are the waterpump inlets on the block level with the coolant flow tho the block? or does coolant drop down further into the block from the water pump inlets?

They are about halfway down the water jackets, and look right straight at the outside of the cyl sleeves.
