Engine swap vehicle registration

So after getting everything I needed together, I am going to be replacing the blown 305 TPI motor with an older carbed 350 engine. How can I go about getting my vehicle inspected without being hassled about the engine swap, do I have to register as a custom built vehicle? If it helps, I live in Delaware.

Re: Engine swap vehicle registration

Laws like that are highly specific to the state. What's required in NY is completely different from AL, OR, MO, etc. Only people familiar with the laws of Delaware will be able to help.

However, in general, most states don't care what's under the hood (a notable exception being CA). They're mostly concerned with being able to identify the car body.

You'll probably get a better straighter more accurate answer by asking the Dept of Motor Vehicles, or whatever they call it, in DE; the people who actually issue the license plates and titles and such. Since after all, ultimately THEY'RE the ones who would have to approve, not a bunch of Internet experts.

Yeah this is true, I was just wondering if anyone ever had issue with this in the past, but I will call my DMV in the morning

Re: Engine swap vehicle registration

For giggles I googled Deleware vehicle emission regulations and found the following site:
http://www.dmv.org/de-delaware/smog-check.php
It seems pretty vague(doesn't mention anything about a "visual check" for all emissions equipment being intact), so based on the site, it would seem that you just have to get the carbed engine to put out emissions equal to or less than the standard for your year of car( and I would imagine for the type of engine that was stock in your car).
