Wondering if anybody has any experience in this swap. My understanding is that the 187 heads were for TBI and TPI engines so I guess the intake for the L69 wouldn't fit.

If a 187 head is used on a L69, what intake manifold would be needed to work with a q-jet setup?

Those are swirl ports found only on TBI, not TPI, IIRC. In general, most people say their only automotive application is as ballast in the trunk. If you're hell bent on using them, the middle holes on your intake can be hogged out to fit the older style bolt pattern. Be advised, you'll also lose compression due to a larger chamber size.

Compression will be about the same.

You'll take about a 10 - 15% HP hit due to the extremely power-hostile design of those "swirlies".

Not sure in what universe this could possibly ever become A Good Idea.

Not sure where you came up with your numbers because I had two different swirl port head carb setups and they BOTH flew!

One was in a boat and ran 5,000 rpm all day long.
