question on spark plug gap..

I was talking to a friend who builds some serious drag cars, not just for himself but for others who pay top $ to have him build their cars. He said I could run.60 gap on my plugs with just an msd coil and msd 8.5mm wires. I thought that was very high, I know some new cars run high gaps but those are coil pack setups. I have an msd coil but 8mm wires. He said with the gap being higher it'll help lower and midrange rpms but it'll fade off at higher. Tpis don't rev high so I figured it was worth looking into. Any engine builders out there have any thoughts on this?

Re: question on spark plug gap..

Of all the things that actually affect the way an engine runs, plug gap is VERY low on the list. As long as there's "some", but not "too much", it's all about the same.

All that you'll accomplish by widening the gap is to increase the stress on all the insulation parts of the system. All cost, no benefit. You'll need more frequent replacement of rotor, cap, & wires.

Set em where they belong; .040" - .045". Nothing to be gained messing with it.

Re: question on spark plug gap..

Ok, thanks. I figured as much, but thought it didn't hurt to ask. Thanks again!
