Starter constantly getting heat soaked in the Arizona heat. One way trips
1989 Iroc-Z
My headers run right past my stock starter. I tried a heat shield but it just doesn't cut it. I can only drive about 25 minutes then once I turn the engine off the starter has to cool for 30-60 minutes. Please help me pick a higher performance starter that can handle the heat. Here are the starters from JEGS that I've been looking at but there are just so many. Will the factory wiring just bolt right on to a mini starter or will I have to mess with the wires?

The really nice ones ($100+) at summit and jegs will be great for this. If that's a bit too much try a used LT1 starter from a junkyard. A new refurb one will cost you more than an aftermarket one (Which will be better for you) so dont go that route.
I had a lot of heatsoak problems with my long tubes until I switched to an LT1 starter. That solved all of it, so it's definitely an easy problem to fix.

I got a remote solenoid for mine and it did absolutely NOTHING to help my heatsoak issue. I ended up taking it out and putting in a used LT1 starter that actually did fix the problem.

That could be it but the remote solenoid kit is only 30 bucks. I actually had my solenoid go out completely last summer and had it replaced and it took about a month for it to start the heat soaking again. Hopefully this will fix it

I swapped in a SUM-820323 mini starter to fix my heat soak issue. Never had a problem since. It is for a manual trans though.
