No spark and some other symptoms

Long story short... car sat for a year...

Drove it from it's parking place to my house, was running it charging the battery when it apparently shut off (I wasn't there). I replaced the battery because it was bad but now I have no spark.

According to the manual I should have 10+ volts on the C and + connectors from the Ignition Control Module with the ECM connector disconnected. I have none on one, and residual on the other.

2 guys I talked to said my ICM is probably toast.

The other 2 symptoms are my oil pressure guage was 0 when I first revived it,.. now it's maxed... as is my tach (they are kind of stuck on each other). I also disconnected the tach lead from the coil and the tach is still maxed.

Is this related? or separate?

Ok... pulled my distributor cap off.. it's not great... and the ICM...

and this is what I'm left with... is it removable? or am I pulling the whole shaft?

Re: No spark and some other symptoms

Replace the distributor. With that amount of rust, your ICM will never get correct readings.

Your oil pressure switch probably needs to be replaced also.

Do I need to replace the ICM too? Or did it just give up because of all this other stuff?

Is it testable? Oil pressure switch gets accessible after I take the distributor out.

at this point I would do "A" check EVERY thing having to do with it starting and running under the hood. "B" pray to your diety of choice that it starts and runs

The irony is it ran mostly fine up until it quit... no real issues...

Re: No spark and some other symptoms

Oil pressure switch is on the driver side, above the oil filter. ICM comes with the distributor.

Re: No spark and some other symptoms

The manual I have lists it behind the driver side valve cover... but I have a car that's 1/2 way between an 88 and an 89... so I'll look in the other place... Looks like I can put the dist in. ... Wanted to make sure I knew where the oil pressure switch was first. Kind of lucky? the ICM comes with the dist.. the dist was $135. The ICM was going to be $110 by itself...
