Anyone know how big of a cam you can go with stock tbi CPU before having problems. I have a 92 formula with a 305 tbi and want to put in a comp cans big ***** thumper in it.

Re: cam size

That's definitely not going to run well. I don't recommend the thumpr cams in general. They're all sound and very little performance in return. If you want a cam you should get one custom ground for your application.

Re: cam size

Depends on your definition of "problems"; as well as, what else you're willing to change at the same time. (valve springs would be an ABSOLUTE MUST; it may involve machine work as well)

Then....

How good are your PROM burning skillz?

If you're like most people who would ask a question like that, better stick with something AHELLUVALOT eeeeezier to get the rest of the car to work with, than that.

If you've just GOTTA change the cam, I'd suggest something more along the lines of the "302" grind. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-08-302-8

I can't do CPU work, I run 99.99% old school stuff. I just picked this 92 up for cheap and want a nice sounding cam lope to it. Or I have an extra pontiac 400 sitting around might put that in it. I know when I had a 4th gen formula there was a place here in Ohio that redid CPU for cam swaps. I just can't remember their name.
