Kickdown Cable Question

A year ago I had a friend swap engines and go from TBI to Carb, he did a lot of the work but stopped working on it and when I got digging into it I had to swap the bottom end out for another due to Mains being wore out... Well it's up and running and everything just about is tuned right except my Kickdown Cable.

I have hooked it up and adjusted it so it's fully pulled with the peddle all the way down but when going on the highway if I step on it, it won't down shift... I don't understand why it's not working, is there a better way to adjust it or is there something else I should be looking at to see if there is an issue there?

(((Could this be a computer issue, since it used to run off the computer and now it is just Carb))) I had to install a push button start so I could jump the starter to start due to the ignition switch being bad but security light stays on but I don't think that matters if it does I can get resistors and put in the line.

Re: Kickdown Cable Question

What carb?
You will need a geometry corrector.
Dont use the gas pedal to reset the TV cable.
After you install the geo. corrector, push in the " D " to unlock the cable HOUSING.
Push the HOUSING all the way to the firewall direction.
By hand manipulate the throttle to wide open-- the housing should ratchet out towards the front of the car.
Basicaly set.

Read the info at
www.tvmadeez
Tells how the TV cable works & what its responsible for.
Hope this helps

It is not a "kickdown " cable like on earlier trans. It is the cable that controls all the shift points

The only thing the computer controls on your trans is the convertor lockup ;
nothing to do with the gear shifts

Re: Kickdown Cable Question

I have a Holly 600 Carb from AutoZone, and looking at that site I have the "stock" TV Cable... I'm going to try and figure it out after work and try to fix it. Thanks again.
just a question how do I know if my Gov is working properly or hooked up for the transmission if I get the TV Cable adjusted properly and it won't shift right?

----EDIT----
I went and adjusted it and .... now it won't shift to 3rd or 4th gear... It revs up all the way till I get 44MPH and shifts to 2nd but won't go to 3rd... I loosened it and it is doing the same thing.... and I took it off and it's still acting the same... Could I of knocked something loose that is causing it to think I'm still WOT when I'm only barely accelerating?

Re: Kickdown Cable Question

You **may** need the Holley throttle & TV cable bracket.
Jegs // Summit
You need a geometry corrector for Holley, also Jegs // Summit unless you have one.
