Valve Guides and Seals

I'm blowing blue at start up and hard accelleration. I'll be replacing the seals this weekend . Is it necessary to do the guides also? The engine has 71,500 on it. I dont want to spend more than I have to on this engine. When the time is right, a 350 will have a new home.

No, most of the time its the seals. When you get ready to change the seals, See if you can wiggle the valve, if you have play than there worn. if you cant, than they should be cool.

Re: Valve Guides and Seals

The guides are part of the head... not really something you can do yourself.

With a low-miles engine like that, seals should fix it right up like new again. Prolly have just deteriorated to dust from old age.
