Smoke from exhaust manifold....Gas smell.

Just bought my 86 Trans am 305 5 Speed. Bough it knowing it needed work. Started it today an noticed smoke coming from the exhaust manifold on the driver side, never seen anything like this before...any ideas? The picture is where its coming from, right out of that bolt? or Nut?

Looks like the lines for the AIR injection, which someone has hacked off badly. Unscrew the hex stumps that remain, and fit pipe plugs.
