Extremely high oil pressure?
Hey guys, I have an 89 Formula and I have a 5.7 Liter from a 1999 Suburban with a carburetor, and I recently drove it and the oil pressure became extremely high (over 60), and the service engine light came on. Does anyone know what the probable cause is? I'm hoping it's nothing serious like a spun rod bearing or a plugged oil pump...

Re: Extremely high oil pressure?
The Check Engine light is not related to oil pressure in any way. The old computer in these cars doesn't even have an input for it, therefore is completely unaware of it.
The reason the gauge suddenly read high is most likely because the wire came off the sending unit.

The SES light came on because you have a carb in an EFI car. The computer isn't getting the signals it thinks it needs, so it turns on the light.
Assuming it actually is a carburetor, and not a TBI unit.
